![]() But it's a port-of-a-port-of-a-port stuffed into Unity, and suffers noticeably from that. The easiest Myst to get ahold of is "realMyst: Masterpiece Edition". If you want to experience the original 'point-and-click' feel, Myst: Masterpiece Edition - It's not the "complete package" like realMyst 2000 is (it's missing an age, and a stronger tie-in to the sequel), but it's preserves the original 1993 experience pretty closely. If you want to get someone hooked on Myst as a fan, this is always where I start. If you want the 'best' one, you want that one. However, it best captures the look and feel of Myst, and every other 3D Myst release is either missing significant content and/or otherwise funky in weird ways. Yes, it's a 2000-era game, so the graphics are dated and it's a little hard to get running nicely in Windows 10. You'll need to creatively Google for it). It's really hard to find the original one (it was on GoG and Steam for years, but Cyan de-listed it from online stores, when the new ports / remake came out. RealMyst (the original, not the masterpiece edition) - realMyst (Sunsoft, 2000) is still the definitive version of Myst, and (IMHO) it's the most true-to-original-Myst-feeling Myst release ever made so far. Is that the best version? Or does it lack something that made the original special? Is one of the older updated versions better? Note that I have left out a lot of little details, such as different versions of the original Myst not available on Steam, the original 2000 Realmyst, etc. It also has the most modern Unreal Engine 4 graphics, with Ray-Tracing lighting and all the sweet stuff. The newest Myst remake (Just called Myst on Steam and GoG) has taken more artistic liberties, to make the environments more realistic, like replacing the more “magical” stuff with steampunk contraptions. There are two choices if you want to experience Myst in real-time on Steam and GoG: There is 2014’s Realmyst: Masterpiece Edition, which is close to a 1 on 1 remake, but real-time. Your enjoyment with the latter will be much stronger if you experienced the original Myst. If you enjoy this, you can always experience Myst in realtime (Actually walking around the world freely) later, as an extra novelty. This version is called Myst: Masterpiece Edition on Steam and GoG. ![]() This way you get the experience many players got in the 90’s. I would recommend to start with the original “point and click” Myst.
